GardenXR

What it does

GardenXR is a mixed reality plant-care app for Meta Quest. You look at a plant through the headset and capture it, and the app tells you what it is, how healthy it looks and how to care for it. You can ask follow-up questions by voice. I worked on it from the first build through its release on the Meta Horizon Store.

Camera access

Quest apps can’t see the camera feed by default. GardenXR needs it, so it had to pass Meta’s review for restricted camera access before it could ship. It passed and is live on the store.

An early version also ran an object detector on the headset. It spread the work across frames so rendering never stalled, and projected the user’s pointing ray into the camera image to find the plant they meant. The released version identifies plants from a single captured frame.
